Osteopathy in the public health

The definitions given to the art of healing date from the 1960’s. The way we saw things at the time does no longer correspond to reality nor to everyday practice, nor to the expectations of the public.

Our “health” system has actually become a “well-being” system, helping our fellow citizens to safeguard or to achieve a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, both in a preventive and curative context.

The osteopathic art is a “knowledge”, which presupposes pedagogy, training and learning of “basic” sciences.

The osteopathic art is an autonomous holistic discipline, holding its own field of research and of work, of human being guidance.

We could define it like this:

“Osteopathy is a praxis and an art promoting a global approach of the human being.
Its praxis includes all the scientific knowledge available for the comprehension of how an individual works.
Its art consists in applying all this knowledge in order to stimulate or restore physiological mechanisms of homeostasis when faced to pathological processes.
Its specificity consists in using various manipulative methods and techniques in order to restore mobility”.
